Hotel Le Rive

The room was elegant and large, and the Lake Geneva view was excellent from the balcony we paid extra for. The restaurant was very good too, and dinner was great. But we were on the first floor, directly above the restaurant and right by a busy, loud road. The hotel is old, though elegantly kept, and not soundproof, so road noise made sleeping difficult. After the road quieted down, the restaurant got loud late at night as staff moved chairs and tables to vacuum, waking us again. The bathroom was very small with a funky layout. There’s no hotel parking. You can pull into a no-drive zone to unload in front, if you can find it, then you’re directed to public parking a couple hundred yards away. If you stay, ask for the second or third floor. You might also skip the lake view if you want less road noise.

The rooms were clean, but the mattress was extremely filthy and soaked with dried body fluids. This is a standard hotel that’s way overpriced and doesn’t deserve a four-star classification.

The view across the lake and mountains from the balcony was the highlight of my holiday. We slept comfortably, and I could have stayed in that room and never left. Breakfast was wonderful on the terrace, where we watched little birds sitting at the tables hoping for crumbs. Hotel le Rive was lovely, clean, and comfortable, with amazing staff. We found it at the last minute after my husband booked a hotel on the French border for the wrong date. That hotel was extremely unhelpful, so I had to find somewhere quickly. We’d travelled from the Leeds area in the UK and arrived late, close to 9 p.m. Luckily, we got a room at Hotel le Rive. We were hungry and the kitchen was nearly closed, but the wonderful manager made us amazing burgers, which we washed down with the best Rosè. I left a bag of medicines in my room, and they posted it to me, going above and beyond. We headed to Zermatt after Nyon, and the manager gave us useful information for our travels when we spoke with him. I hope we can return soon to explore the area. Dinner was excellent, especially the vitello tonato, and the waiter took time to help me even with the restaurant completely full. The staff were very kind, too. I was trying to find Nyon’s best restaurant for dinner, and I think this was it. The central location is hard to beat.
