The room had lovely bedding and a quaint feel, and dinner was easily the best evening meal we’ve had so far on the TMB. The food was out of this world, much of it from the garden. Breakfast was the most basic we’ve had, with very little choice. We also ordered a bottle of red with dinner without seeing a wine menu and were charged €45, which seemed absurd for one bottle. A review of two halves, really.

We were a family group of nine, and the hosts sent us off with cowbells ringing. The views from every room and the dining room were jaw-dropping, and our pre-ordered raclette came with superb local wines. The hotel is in a spectacular spot, and the staff were friendly. The facilities are a little dated, but the relaxed atmosphere and flexible service make it especially good for families with children.

The homemade dinner was the best meal we had at any of the hotels on our Tour du Mont Blanc trek. After the 7 pm dinner bell, we had roti, what seemed to be beef or steak with gravy and mushrooms, then homemade cinnamon ice cream with fresh berries. The salad and vegetables came fresh from the garden, a real farm-to-table meal. We also got trail lunches for 5 swiss Franc each: homemade sandwiches, a green apple, and a snickers bar. The people here were so lovely and attentive. We speak neither German nor French, and the older man didn’t speak English, but the person I assumed was his son helped translate our questions. I’m only guessing, but it seemed like the place might be run by the older man and a relative who also hosted us. It felt personal and like home. Our balcony looked over the garden, and seeing the hotel linens hung out to dry in the mountain air was another beautiful touch. I loved the place and feel lucky we got to stay here. We missed the included breakfast because we left very early to avoid the heat on our hike.

The hosts made us feel so welcome, and both dinner and breakfast were better than any restaurant meal we’ve had. Our room was comfortable, with spectacular views. This was our favorite hotel in Switzerland, and we’re already planning to come back. Highly recommend.

Irene sent us off with scrambled eggs and honey from her own hives, which was such a lovely finish to our stay. During our Tour du Mont Blanc trek, this was probably our favorite stop: great views, a wonderful host, and an easy location for town. We took the short walk into town for lunch and dinner. A great experience, highly recommend.
