Camping Simplonblick

For a campsite that’s fairly cheap for Switzerland, it still costs a lot compared with neighboring European countries, so working equipment matters, especially when the weather’s so-so. Both tumble dryers were broken during high season, and they were still out of order the day after I called the "reception". There isn’t actually a reception, just a number to call. The woman who answered only spoke German. I’m from France, but managed to explain the problem; she said someone should come, without being able to say when. I couldn’t spend a day of my holiday waiting. The nearby town is small, and I couldn’t even find a clothes horse there, so we eventually dried our clothes in the caravan with the heater on. One dryer’s problem was the coin timer, not the dryer itself, so it should have been easy to arrange a way for us to dry our clothes. The timer on a washing machine is faulty too, just swallowing coins, and it isn’t marked out of order. I don’t like leaving bad reviews, but I hope management notices this issue.

It’s a very small village, and not much is open from 29-31 Dec, but the cable cars and chair lifts to the local slopes are easy to reach. Only two bathrooms were open, though the water was hot and they were clean. It’s clearly a quiet time of year, and I’m sure there’d be more available in summer. Good value, and helpful locals came to our aid when we got stuck in the snow.

The view is stunning and the campsite itself is beautiful, with clean facilities. There is some road noise. My only issue was the Wi-Fi: the signal is weak and doesn’t reach every area.

We had a great stay and would happily come back. The campsite is surrounded by beautiful mountains, and the train station is only a short walk away, making it easy to reach other towns. The bathrooms were clean and the water pressure was fantastic. There’s also a pool, a trampoline and a small restaurant. My friend and I really enjoyed it.
