The service really stood out. We had to leave early, and they insisted on making me a coffee and packing a bag of breakfast goodies. The rooms also have phenomenal views, the facilities are great, and breakfast is amazing. I’d highly recommend staying here.

The rooms are in a basement, and a side door that opens to the outside was left unlocked. That made the place feel scary at night, especially with the lack of security. Getting to the property was also inconvenient, with several flights of stairs to climb with luggage, something that hadn’t been clearly mentioned beforehand. We sent a few polite questions through booking.com in the evening and got replies, but the staff member at breakfast the next morning was suddenly rude and unwelcoming. We were courteous and smiled, yet her comments and manner made us feel uncomfortable and, unfortunately, discriminated against. It felt as though she thought we were stealing their food. We found that upsetting and completely uncalled for. After we got home, we rated the stay honestly. Management’s public reply was defensive and unprofessional, even suggesting their behaviour had “mirrored ours.” That was entirely untrue and disappointing to read. I’m sharing this so future travellers know about both the physical inconvenience and the lack of professionalism and respect we experienced.

I gave it 3 stars because I actually enjoyed seeing it through a Schitt’s Creek lens. Gasthof Schoenegg B&B feels like Schitt’s Creek landed in the Swiss Alps, a bit quirky, dated, and slightly chaotic, but kind of iconic if you go with it. The views do a lot of the work, because, Switzerland, but the B&B is more of a charming time capsule than a modern alpine escape. If you’re after luxury, this isn’t it. If isolation matters more to you than polish, you’ll get it. And that’s just what it is, honestly. If you’re unsure, stay in Lauterbrunnen.

We had an early train, and the lady at the front desk told me the day before that she’d pack us breakfast, even though we hadn’t asked. Where do you find such kind people? The views were superb, the breakfast was awesome, and the front desk was exceptional. There’s also laundry on site.
