Golfhotel Les Hauts de Gstaad & SPA

We were in Gstaad for the Polo Match and had a great stay. The whole place has a pleasant, relaxing feel, and the reception team were lovely and accommodating. The restaurant was a highlight, with excellent service and top quality food. Our rooms were spacious and everything worked well, and the beds were comfortable. It’s also a great family choice, with a huge, well-equipped playroom. Hope we can return one day!

At the Snow Bar by the ski lifts, also called Schneebar La Ferme, I asked the bartender, Marrick, a few basic questions about the menu. He answered rudely and dismissively, and even called my questions “stupid.” Being insulted just for asking about the menu was unpleasant and really spoiled the experience. A bar in such a prime spot should treat guests with basic respect and professionalism, but that wasn’t my experience.

The pool and spa were nice, though smaller and lower quality than those at other Swiss hotels we stayed in. The entrance and welcome made a lovely first impression, and service was good, if not exceptional. For us, the price felt like five-star pricing for a hotel that didn’t feel like four stars, so the value was off. The beds were too hard and the pillows too soft, and sleep matters a lot to us. After a week touring the Swiss Alps, we can say this was by far our worst night’s sleep. Dinner was good, but 250 chf for two people and four drinks felt extremely expensive for a meal that wasn’t extraordinary. I’d eat elsewhere next time. The buffet was average by Swiss standards; even the buffets at lower-priced hotels, including Raddison Blu, were better. We stayed at Fairmont Le Montreux, 1.25 hours away, the following night, and it was much better and cheaper across the board. I’d suggest staying there and driving the 1.2 hours to Gstaad, since you have to drive from Golfhotel to the ski lifts anyway. They’re only 10 minutes away, but the hotel still isn’t near the lifts. We wish we’d picked a cheaper Gstaad hotel, as we’re sure it wouldn’t have been worse.

The Alps views were gorgeous, the food was delicious, and the staff were lovely. I especially enjoyed the clean, spacious, relaxing spa. One of my best experiences in Switzerland, and a hidden gem for a traditional Swiss getaway. I’m already looking forward to returning.
