Auberge des Vergers

There’s a welcoming feel to this place, set in a residential area. My room was small and the bathroom was shared, so bring your own soap and shampoo. I suppose prices are high because it’s Geneva: breakfast was €15 for coffee, orange juice, a croissant and a few slices of baguette. CERN is about a 20-minute walk away.

I came for a concert and saw two. I really liked the venue and its atmosphere, with good music such as Cafe Grec.

Tram 18 takes you straight into downtown Geneva, so it’s easy to spend time in the busy city and come back to the quiet of Meyrin. We also enjoyed the neighborhood’s friendly, communal feel. Apartment buildings have restaurants, schools, workshops or small businesses on their ground floors, and the Tabac convenience store has an amazing range of things. Bar des Vergers is a must visit for food, drinks and local conversation. Walking and cycling trails cross the farmland and can lead you to the CERN Visitor Center. My wife and I stayed for two wonderful weeks. Our room was charming and clean, and the staff were very helpful.

I was nearby and hungry, so I stopped at the restaurant. Big mistake. I paid 45 CHF for carbonara and bolognese. The carbonara was raw egg with lardon, with the parmegiano served in a separate bowl. The bolognese had watery sauce and one slice of mozarella, which I guess was bought. I regret not sending the food back, but I was so hungry. A waste of money.
