Hotel Roseg Gletscher

I stayed here with a Wildland Trekking (US) tour group and loved it all: the horse wagon ride, hiking trails, dessert bar, views, and room. Everything was amazing!!!

The setting was stunning, with open blue skies and snow all around, and the staff treated us with real warmth and care. But the dinner was spoiled by a guest who had been drinking and started shouting at the waiter. They argued about the bill and the food for about an hour, then the guest got aggressive and moved toward him. Another staff member and I stepped between them to stop it becoming physical. The police came, spoke with everyone, and left. By then my partner and I were too nervous to enjoy the meal, and we were handed the bill. I asked the next morning whether anything could be done about the ruined dinner and got 10 franks back. The food itself was good, though the restaurant was extremely expensive. We paid nearly as much for the meal as for one night in our dorm.

That dessert spread on the terrace was enormous, and everything I recognized looked freshly made. In retrospect, coffee and the buffet would have been the better choice. The restaurant has a respectable menu, perhaps a little too broad, and our lunch came quickly with no complaints about the food. The staff were friendly and accommodating, though they didn't seem thrilled when we initially asked only for drinks. We ended up eating. We hiked there from St. Moritz, passing Stazer lake and going through the Rosegg valley. It was a lovely, easy walk, but a long one. Even starting in Pontresina makes for quite a trek. If you're tired or full afterward, there's a horse sleigh back to Pontresina.

The setting is the reason for my two stars. I can't say how the desserts taste, since house flies and honey bees or wasps were all over them. They had some gadgets to protect the cakes from the flies, but they weren't doing the job.
