ibis Sion Hotel

We found the bar and restaurant unexpectedly good, with excellent food and service. Staff were helpful, and the rooms were very clean, though a little worn. Breakfast was average. There’s plenty of parking, but since it’s uncovered, it should be free for guests. The location works well for a road trip stop, right by the motorway, but it’s far from the city centre and there’s not much of interest nearby.

This was the worst stay I’ve had in Switzerland. The hotel felt run-down, and I wouldn’t recommend it. Breakfast didn’t have enough food for the number of guests, and the choices were awful. We’d booked dinner as a tour group, but staff said it wasn’t in the system, which caused trouble. Even though we arrived to check in at 6 pm, our room wasn’t ready. The hotel also seemed seriously understaffed. Our room was tiny, even allowing for the extra bed for three people. That bed was a makeshift sofa, so small that my legs, and I’m six feet tall, hung off it. The floor was dirty, the sink was broken and its drain plug couldn’t be switched, and the shower trickled as if gravity alone was pushing the water. The door was oddly misaligned and had to be slammed to lock.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Our double room was compact but still a comfortable size, and the bed was good. The hotel was very clean.

The room had everything we needed, and the food was good. A shout-out to the guy handling the bar and restaurant on his own. Staff were friendly too. It’s close to the motorway, though a bit far from the city.
