Hotel Bären Self Check-in

I checked in during the morning, before the self check-in kiosk outside is needed for arrivals later in the day. The rooms are clean and modern, and there's bike storage and charging downstairs. It's less than 1 km from the city wall, the Swiss breakfast was good, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.

The self check-in was a piece of cake, very easy. The room was good and clean, the bed was perfect, and breakfast was good too. The hotel is very nice, with friendly staff. Thank you for everything.

With no reception, the hotel feels impersonal and cold. Maybe that leaves guests thinking they don't need to consider other people's rest. The hotel is on a busy street with a tram line, so sleeping with the window open isn't ideal. At 23:30, other guests woke me with loud music and chatter.

I had a terrible experience. The room was overcrowded and stuffy, so I left after one night but still had to pay for the second. Staff's response was, "not my problem," and I still couldn't figure out where to find the Wi-Fi details. The outdoor self check-in panel was a nightmare: there's no shelter, so you'd get soaked in the rain, and it asked me to enter all my personal details, including my address, date of birth, email, and passport number, instead of scanning a barcode or using a booking reference. Then it tried to charge me 200 more than the reserved internet price for a two-night stay. Luckily, someone was there to correct it.
