Hotel Eastside

We were told there’d be a buffet and booked a table for two, but there wasn’t one when we arrived. The restaurant manager assured us we could ask for anything and they’d bring it out like a buffet. That turned out not to be true, and we were charged for each dish. I absolutely wouldn’t recommend it. Shame on them.

The room was clean, but the service was awful and rude. I’d booked a late check-in and the hotel approved it. When I later called to confirm my arrival and add one person, they treated both things as suspicious, threw the phone, and made accusations. None of their business, they should just do their job. They then asked me for my bank card CVV over the phone. That should have been a huge red flag, but I stupidly gave it to them. Even though my provider guarantees payment to the hotel if I don’t show up, they took money and hadn’t prepared the room for two. There was no extra blanket or towels, and no refund. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had dealing with hotel staff anywhere in the world. A self-check-in machine would have handled the late arrival and extra guest without all those accusations.

The facilities are basic but clean, and the beds were comfy. It’s just outside st.gallen, about 12 minutes by public transport. Breakfast was available, but we chose to go into town.

The rooms are comfortable and acceptable, though they could use an update. The TV is small and the bathroom very basic. In every other way, the experience was excellent for this price range, the best in its class so far for me. Staff were extraordinarily friendly, service in the hotel restaurant was excellent, and the food was very good.
