Hotel Rheinfels

Dinner was a real highlight. I started with the house aperitif, Zippi, a light white wine with black currant syrup. Really delicious, you should try it. The beef filet with herb butter was unbelievably good. The vegetables were very good too, though I might have preferred rice to French fries. I was glad I took the stairs down to dinner, because the antiques on the middle floor were excellent. After three hours on the road, I was happy to relax in my spacious, clean, nicely furnished room. It was winter, 15 December, and I had a lovely room available with a river view. The welcome felt personal from the moment I came in. There was also an elevator, which I appreciated at 68, even though I can manage stairs. My room was on the 2nd floor, 3rd for Americans. As a non-smoker, I appreciated the sign warning that throwing cigarette butts out the window could result in a Chf10,000 (12,600 USD) fine. The hotel is by the river, in the Altstadt, and close to the Rheinfalls, making it a great choice for a weekend out. I had the pleasure of dining and staying overnight at Rheinfels Hotel and Restaurant, Rhigass 8, Stein am Rhein, Switzerland. The night before, I was in St. Ursanne.
