Stoos Lodge

The architecture is splendid, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. The staff seem to have been chosen with care. Just a wonderful family hotel in the best possible location, great on every front ❤️.

We didn't stay overnight, but stopped by on a whim for lunch at the stoos lodge restaurant. The vegetarian buffet was great, with lots of good choices, including many vegan dishes, and the pizzas we ordered were very good too. Friendly staff and good service. I found the price very reasonable, or about what you'd pay elsewhere in Switzerland. I'd come back 😊

The beds weren't comfortable, and the sheets felt like sandpaper. The pillows were very flat, so you had to ask reception for a firmer, normal pillow. We got two, but our friends weren't as lucky because the hotel had run out. Cleaning also costs extra and isn't included in the room price. The service was disorganized from booking through checkout. I booked months ahead, then had to call to get confirmation; they sent two separate confirmation emails, so I called again to check. I first requested an M room, which is bigger, but they booked an S room. I didn't want to make yet another call to change it. At dinner, not one order across lunch and two dinners was right. Something was always missing, and the very nice wait staff seemed to be let down by a broken process. Simple bill splitting got mixed up, reservations were forgotten, and the wrong menu was printed. Breakfast was already included in our booking, though we didn't know. During online check in and card pickup, the system asked whether we wanted to add breakfast. We said no and ended up paying 80 Chf extra for breakfast we hadn't had. At checkout, charges we'd added to the room weren't showing in the system, so we had to walk back to reception to settle the missing tabs. The bathroom door is shared between the toilet and shower, so you can't use both at once. Stoos Lodge is modern and nice looking, but this experience felt like a hostel in a very modern building, with subpar service for almost 300 a night. Never again.

Every time we came in, Rúben Pedrosa made us feel welcome and cared for. He's a skilled, attentive barman and server, and he really made our stay special.
