I didn’t stay overnight, but I did have a splendid dinner here. The server encouraged me to try the Cordon Bleu, saying I wouldn’t be disappointed, and he was right. It was cooked in a pan and finished in the oven, served piping hot with a buttery flavor. When I cut into it, the cheese oozed out of the meat. A real treat. Cordon Bleu seems to be a staple in the area and appears on every menu. It was fashionable in the 70s, though it’s often deep-fried with disappointing results. For an authentic version, Relais Bayard is the place to go. The food, service, and drinks were all excellent.

The voucher was for a two-night wellness package, but the hotel was closed for two months during the eligible period because of covid. They wouldn’t extend the deadline at all. During the whole process, we never got an email reply longer than two sentences. When we finally made the trip, the hotel wellness area was closed for construction, and apparently they didn’t think that needed to be mentioned when we booked. The staff were very unfriendly and unhelpful while we were there, and the food felt overpriced for what it was. On top of that, the hotel is right next to a big road, with an electricity grid running over it. We could hear both all night. We definitely won’t be back. Don’t make the same mistake we did, and avoid the place if you can.

You’re received kindly and served quickly here. On the way home after a cold but sunny morning photographing the bearded vulture in the Gemmipass, I stopped for lunch, hoping for a big piece of meat. The 200 g beef filet on a hot stone was just what I wanted, and the good pinot noir went well with it. The industrial French fries and day-old bread were less appealing. The garlic sauce could kill your beloved one on your return. A little tomato or even a salad leaf for decoration would have been nice.

We always stay here. It’s nice and calm, and the breakfast buffet is nice too. Don’t miss the Roggenbrot, the local specialty bread. We’ll be back.
