Hotel am Schloss

I got to the hotel late and couldn't reach the key they'd left on the counter, so I called the number on the door. A man I think was called Zander or Xander answered and yelled at me, then told me to leave because I hadn't been charged, even though I had a reservation. I stayed polite through the whole exchange. It was 11 at night, and there wasn't another hotel nearby where I could go. A truly awful interaction, and this person shouldn't be working in service.

The location is fantastic, right in the old town across from the castle and canals, and only a short walk from the train station. I got stranded by a storm and couldn't reach my destination, so a room for around 144 CHF during high season felt like great value for this area. The rooms are small but clean, and the service was friendly and great. Breakfast is a basic buffet, with a limited choice of cold cuts and cheese, spreads, yogurt, fruit, boiled eggs, and coffee. Value may depend on when you visit.

Great location, but the management was terrible. There was nobody at reception, so I had to find my key behind the counter. Parking came with an extra fee that hadn't been explained beforehand, and half the spaces were taken up by the owners' old, broken-down cars. I also found bugs crawling through the towels. Wouldn't recommend.

We ended up booking across the street after the reception person's rude response. We had planned to stay here for our weekend in Thun, but a car blocked the small parking area and left us unable to move forward or back. When we politely asked who owned it, they said it was their car and accused us of parking illegally on their property. We were only asking for help with parking, so the blame and unkindness left us speechless. I'm deeply disappointed and can't recommend this hotel.
