B&B Garni Casa La Val

The breakfast had a big selection, including boiled eggs, bread, jam, cereal, yogurt, deli meats and cheeses, and it was very good. We had an easy check-in at the restaurant right in front of the hotel. Our second-floor room had a balcony with a nice mountain view, a kettle, a welcome note from the owner, chocolates on the pillow, and two bottles of water. The room had shower and bathroom soap or shampoo, but no conditioner. There was no AC, so we kept the windows open and spent the night listening to flies and mosquitoes buzz around our ears. Small USB fans are a good idea for summer in Switzerland. One odd issue: the TV in our room had a password preventing us from switching to HDMI for a FireStick or other device. Staff tried to help but didn’t know the password.

The next morning, the hotelier’s wife served me a full Swiss breakfast before I set off for Salzburg. I’d arrived after crossing Grimsel Pass by motorbike in a random July snowstorm, feeling so rattled I was ready to sleep under a bridge. Bookingdotcom showed Hotel La Val as well rated, so I set the GPS and headed there. The owner was warm and inviting, and the place felt like staying in someone’s home. He even locked my bike in his personal garage overnight. The room had a comfortable bed, a balcony with a stunning valley view, and a shower and sink. As in many homes converted into hotels, the loo was in the corridor. Everything was spotlessly clean, as the owner assured me was the Swiss way. A wonderful stay, highly recommended.

We stayed one night while touring Switzerland. The rooms were spacious and clean, breakfast was very good, and parking was included. Good value for money.

The homemade Mountain burger was wonderful, and the Nero d’avola was splendid. The owner was really nice and full of information. A great mountain restaurant.
