The location right by the slopes is great, and the staff are kind and dedicated. But the new management has brought down the service quality. I told the hotel about my gluten allergy in advance and again at check-in, yet there was no gluten-free bread at breakfast. When I asked about having some the next day, the owner refused, despite nearby supermarkets selling it. A bottle of tap water also cost us 6.50 CHF, while nearby restaurants charge around 2 CHF. I stayed here last year with the previous owners and had a much better experience. The management change is a real disappointment.

The staff are friendly and efficient, and the food was good. The rooms were tidy and very clean, and the hotel's location is exceptional. Still, this year was a big disappointment after the change of owners. We used to be delighted to come here, but the new rules left no room for flexibility, and check-in felt methodical and abrupt. It wasn't the smooth, gentle, friendly welcome we remembered.

My room was okay, nothing to highlight, and there’s a place to leave your bike. Be aware there’s no elevator. When I visited in summer, the restaurant was closed for dinner and there weren’t many other options in town. I barely interacted with the staff, but the first day I was badly scolded for arriving 15 minutes before check-in and asking two simple questions. I was told, “Don’t you see we are busy here?” If you use a lot of body wash, bring your own, since they leave just one small sachet per night.

Ulrichen itself is beautiful and peaceful, and Hotel Nufenen is right beside a lovely cross-country skiing area. The ski school is almost next door, and the pistes are about a 50-metre walk away. The staff couldn't have been nicer, and the four-course dinner was amazing. Our room was very comfortable, and after checking out and going skiing, they even let us come back for a shower. I had a lovely stay and highly recommend it.

A great hotel for touring the local mountain passes. The location, service and cleanliness all felt like five-star accommodation, and the rooms are snug.
