Adventure Hostel

The kitchen was a lovely extra, fully equipped so we could make our own meals and feel at home. Breakfast was delicious too. Our room was cozy and comfortable, and check-in went smoothly. I had a wonderful stay at Adventure Hostel Interlaken and would happily recommend this warm, welcoming place.

For the price, I didn’t think this was one of the better hostels. Breakfast was quite simple and could use improvement. In the morning, you have to strip the sheets off your bed and take them to reception. They also charged us an extra 5CHF for parking without telling us when we arrived.

I arrived at 7pm for a two-night stay, later than my planned early check-in, and there was nobody at reception or replying to chat messages. They’d left an envelope with a room and bed number, but the beds weren’t numbered. My bed wasn’t made, and someone had taken the space underneath it. I asked a guy if there was a free bed and he said he didn’t think so. I’d hoped to go for a walk, but spent about an hour trying to sort this out. Two girls arrived about 15 minutes later and said the bed was free, then made it themselves. First they said not to worry because there was a free bed, but after making it they said I could have the room if I paid another 100 francs. They added that what I’d paid was already very little and included breakfast. All four lockers in the six-bed room were occupied. The woman made a few rude remarks, saying it wasn’t their fault and that I could complain to booking.com, who would say the same. She said there were lockers in the basement, but they don’t lock. I felt unsafe leaving my things out. There are penalties for showering after 6, and the toilets were limited and unkempt. The common area is part of a restaurant, where people in the fondue restaurant seemed nice, but after this I wouldn’t want to pay anything extra. I missed a walk in daylight, and my complaint wasn’t taken seriously. The woman just asked why she should give me a room. Nobody was begging for one, but the whole thing felt very impolite. Honestly, I wouldn’t have minded paying 20 francs more to stay at another hostel.

Getting around was easy, with a bus stop right nearby and a free travel ticket for daily bus or train rides. The place is also very close to both lakes. I loved the traditional décor, the big garden, and the incredible view, honestly it felt like paradise. The hostel was spotless and my roommates were really quiet, so it was super relaxing. Breakfast was fresh, very good, and had enough variety to start the day well.
