Neuhaus Golf- & Strandhotel

The view is wonderful, but there were spiders everywhere, especially in the rooms and corridors. My kids had some scary nights because of them. The food was high quality, though there wasn’t much variety.

The room was clean, with an awesome view right by the lake. Breakfast had plenty of options, and they kept refilling things until 10, so even if you got up late there was still a good choice. Getting here was straightforward, with bus 21 stopping right in front, and the price was competitive for the area. The building is very old, which you can tell from the room interior, and it made me wonder if I’d really booked a 3 star hotel. The room was small, the mattress much too soft and uncomfortable, and there’s no AC. There was only a noisy fan in the bathroom, so ventilation felt a bit lacking. You can open the window, but there’s no screen to keep bugs out. Soundproofing was basically nonexistent. I could hear neighbors and people upstairs clearly, and ended up wearing ear plugs.

Both waiters acted strangely, and I felt they were racist. One was very rude and embarrassed me in front of other guests near the breakfast hall. He was friendly and giggly with the local Swiss guests, though. Maybe he doesn’t like brown people, or maybe he’s just a grumpy old man. I’ve never had this kind of experience with hotel staff before. It ruined my day.

The setting made the hotel feel like a resort, beautiful all around and so enclosed and private that it felt like being on a private lake. The views were stunning at every time of day. It’s also easy to get into town: a nearby bus takes about 20 minutes to Interlaken, and the boat runs twice a day to Interlaken West. The location is perfect. We were glad we chose to stay here even though it was one of the more expensive options. Breakfast was included, delicious, and had lots of fresh choices every morning, which saved us money. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely come back!
