Holiday Inn Zurich - Messe by IHG

The room was quiet and about 20 minutes from Zurich HB, but very basic, with badly scratched hardwood floors. The lobby was nicely decorated. I booked and paid a month ahead for three people for a couple of days before leaving Zurich, but the room had only one king size bed. The receptionist was matter of fact and unfriendly. When I went down to ask about the missing bed, she said all rooms only accommodate two and I’d need to book another room for the third person. I was traveling with an elderly person, so I asked about a roller bed. She asked whether there was one in the room; I said no, and she said she’d send one up. I’m not sure where the miscommunication happened. If the room only fits two, why was I able to book it for three?

We booked two rooms together, but they weren’t put side by side even though rooms were available. The room was dirty, and housekeeping was careless. There were no complimentary water bottles, and the response from staff was slow and unprofessional. I expected better service from Holiday Inn, so this stay was a big letdown. Poor service and poor management.

We asked several times for water bottles and still didn't get any. The staff seemed uninterested in helping and didn't respond well. The room cleanliness was unacceptable. A very unhappy stay.

The room was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed, and we had no noise trouble from either the music venue across the street or the construction nearby. It was easy to reach the city center by public transport. We enjoyed the restaurant enough to eat dinner there both nights, though remember it closes at 9:30pm. Even with a tour group staying there, service was efficient and we didn't wait long for food or the bill. I even saw the front desk manager helping the restaurant team. Breakfast had a nice mix of hot and cold options. We stayed two nights and really enjoyed it. Thanks to the team.
