The room was small, and the air conditioning didn't work when we checked in. The service hotline said a technician could only come the next morning, so we had to spend the hot night without AC. There was a tower fan already in the room, and the apartment cleaner confirmed they knew about the AC problem, but they kept taking bookings anyway. The supposedly 24/7 hotline was also unresponsive, and service was poor. Nobody came to repair the AC the next day. The room wasn't cheap, and the condition and service were completely unacceptable. It's about a 17-minute uphill walk from Zurich Hbf too. I don't recommend it at all.

The building's exterior in the Chase Travel Portal photos felt a little misleading compared with what I saw in person. Even so, I had a pleasant stay at Royal Hotel Zürich. The room was comfortable and well appointed, and the staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. They went out of their way to make me feel at home, and the good service and accommodations made it a solid choice.

We could hear the church bells across the street in the evening, which was a joy. The hotel was within walking distance of the train station and city center, but far enough away to avoid too much noise. It's also right on the tram line from the airport, so getting there was easy and didn't cost much. We stayed one night and had a good experience. Our room was a bit small, as you'd expect in a European hotel, and the low ceiling section over the bed made getting in and out a little awkward. The person who checked us in was pleasant, though the night desk person seemed to be on personal phone calls all the time.

The room was okay, but a 10 a.m. checkout is ridiculously early. They even knocked on the door, and when I asked for a later checkout, they refused. Before COVID, international checkout time was 12.
