Wow, that balcony view was a highlight for me, and I really liked the hotel as a whole. It’s in a great spot for this price range, and breakfast had a fantastic selection, including lots of vegetarian options. The staff were lovely and spoke English very well, so everything was easy during my stay.

The location is what you’re paying for here, so I wouldn’t call it a bargain. Hotel Illuster in Uster, Switzerland is clean and modern, and my room was nicely furnished and comfortable apart from the heat. “Temperature-controlled” doesn’t mean air-conditioned, which is worth knowing. Staff members all mentioned that AC was due to be installed soon but had been delayed. Maybe that’s true, maybe not. If you’re coming in warm weather, light pajamas and a small fan might help. Decent stay, but a cool breeze would have made it much more comfortable.

I’ve been here a few times for work. The rooms are clean and nice after the recent renovation, and the hotel is close to the train station. Zürich is just a short train ride away.

The entrance setup is a little unusual: you take a lift to get into the hotel, and there are two entrances leading to it. Once inside, the rooms are spacious and warm, the shops are nearby, and the front desk staff are really friendly. I loved breakfast, easily my best meal of the day. Weekend prices are discounted too, which is a nice bonus.

What upset me most was the checkout receipt being typed incorrectly. I asked for it to be corrected and printed again, but the staff member said nothing could be done and suggested I delete it myself. Breakfast never changed, the counter service was poor, and room cleaning usually seemed to mean just laying out the quilts. The only thing this hotel has going for it is how expensive it is.
