House of Architects

The thermal bath was stunning, and the mountain and Vals views were amazing. We stayed in the Peter Zumthor room, with a lovely atmosphere and meticulous design. The staff were friendly and caring. A real once-in-a-lifetime experience!

We wouldn’t return. We stayed at 7132 – House of Architects for our anniversary, but despite telling them in advance, we never felt welcome or looked after. The architecture and room are beautiful, though the staff, check-in, breakfast, restaurants, and other services are shared with the main 7132 hotel, where service was poor throughout. If you’re not Swiss, we especially wouldn’t recommend it. The one bright spot was the Italian restaurant, where service was excellent and professional. The rest of the hotel felt like it had no soul or hospitality. At this price level, service should be impeccable, and it wasn’t. Check-in felt cold and gave us little information. Later, front desk staff were dismissive and unhelpful. At breakfast, service was slow and disorganized, and nobody explained what was included. When we politely asked about ordering something extra, such as eggs, the waiter looked annoyed. The coffee was cold, poorly filtered, and had visible grounds, which isn’t acceptable at even a basic hotel, let alone at these rates. We also asked the front desk whether there was a private place for a short meeting. The staff member sighed and showed clear frustration, as though a paying guest’s question was an inconvenience. We were told when booking that English wouldn’t be a problem, yet several staff struggled with basic English. After we shared our concerns with management, the only “compensation” offered was a bottle of water and a piece of stale bread. Given the cost and experience, that felt almost insulting.

The staff were really nice, and the therme was excellent. There’s also a decent gym. But the rooms were extremely tiny, with nowhere to put anything, so my stuff ended up on the floor. Drinks at the bar cost 24 CHF and were below average. Breakfast choices were poor, with only boiled or poached eggs included in the price. It didn’t feel like a luxury hotel. Save your time and money, it was 600 chf a night. I highly recommend staying elsewhere.

The spa was a wonderful experience, and the location is great, backed by beautiful alpine mountains. You might need to drive yourself. The room design was brilliant and very inspiring, and the service was courteous too. Excellent space, I’ll definitely return.
