The hotel is looked after by three elder ladies, and the staff are kind and helpful. It’s a small, traditional place with an excellent kitchen. I tried the steak, and it was prepared really well. There’s a lot of walking to enjoy along the Alpine valley.

It’s a good place for a night’s stay, but checkout doesn’t start until 8, so you can’t leave early to beat the traffic at the Gotthard tunnel. The town itself feels dead, with few places to eat, and those places are very expensive, at least for non Swiss residents.

The food was okay, but it felt as if they didn’t want us ordering there. We arrived around 13:40 and were told we were too late to eat because the restaurant closed at 14:00. One waitress started to offer us the full menu, but an older woman stopped her and let us choose only from a much simpler menu.
