Hotel Alpenblick

The breakfast was the weakest we had in three weeks of staying in Switzerland, both in choice and taste. The restaurant food was mediocre at best, and we also saw the tall, younger, dark-haired server throw tantrums on two consecutive days. He slammed the outer patio doors, raged to coworkers about English guests outside, smashed glasses the first night, and dropped a whole stack of dishes the second. This was especially disappointing for a restaurant described as Michelin-starred. We booked a Jr. Suite through Booking.com for $470 USD a night, but were given a Standard Double Room valued at $236 USD a night. After we showed proof of what we had booked, the apology was a “free” glass of champagne. There was no room change or refund. We should have received $204 per night for three nights back. We felt taken advantage of, and were. We’d strongly recommend finding somewhere else to stay in Wilderswil. Hotel Baeren next door had excellent, tasty food, pleasant and accommodating service, and no tantrums or rip-offs.

The authentic décor and attentive staff give this hotel a real traditional Swiss Alps feel. It’s a romantic, unforgettable place, and the price is reasonable.

Getting around was easy from this perfect spot for bus and train services. The food was generous and top class, and the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive. A positive experience.

The rooms were okay, if a bit basic, and the place itself wasn’t bad. The problem was that some of our party had told the hotel well in advance they were gluten-free, but the hotel kept failing to provide it as promised.
