The Matterhorn view was the highlight, absolutely spectacular. Our room was spacious and comfortable, so it was easy to relax. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel welcome and were always ready to help with anything we needed. We had a truly wonderful stay and would gladly return.

Our balcony looked straight out at the Matterhorn, unobstructed, and waking up to that view was the highlight of our stay at Hotel Alpenroyal. The hilltop setting needn’t put you off: a key card gives access to a private elevator and tunnel system that gets you into the heart of Zermatt in about three minutes. The breakfast buffet was high quality, with lots of local Swiss cheeses. Rooms have a charming traditional alpine style, though they’re a bit snug. I’d recommend it for the view alone.

I visited in May, outside the main season. The room was basic but very clean, and the staff were super friendly. The location and view of the Matterhorn were amazing.

The elevator makes getting to the town center easy, which is a big plus. Breakfast was tasty and adequate, and the hotel was clean and nice. The pool and sauna are on the small side but sufficient. Rooms don’t come with slippers, and even basic ones cost extra, so bring your own.

The sauna was nice. The only issue was the house being built directly in front of our room. A large crane blocked the Matterhorn, and I wonder how long it’ll take for construction to finish.
