the rex, Zermatt

The staff made our stay so worthwhile. They were kind and quick to help with restaurant ideas and reservations, answered all my many questions patiently, helped us understand the piste map for our ski levels, and even coordinated getting back a credit card I’d lost somewhere else. The lobby bar served the best craft cocktails I had in Zermatt, and I’m not exaggerating, they were that good. I stayed at the Rex in March for a ski getaway and couldn’t have asked for a better time in Zermatt. It’s tucked away from the crowded areas but close to bus stops, mountain lifts, and the center. Our room had a beautiful Matterhorn view, and breakfast was included. We usually ended the day at the sauna and spa. Finding somewhere to stay in Zermatt can feel overwhelming, but if you want a relaxed boutique hotel and incredibly friendly service, I can’t recommend the Rex enough. I can’t wait to return.

Waking up to fresh bread from the bakery downstairs was such a charming part of the weekend. The rooms were spacious, spotless, and full of character, and the hotel preserves its history while still offering modern comforts. Everything was easy to reach from the location. I planned a surprise birthday weekend in Zermatt for my boyfriend, and Hotel Rex Zermatt was wonderful. The reception team helped arrange a special birthday dinner, a last-minute lunch reservation at a famous mountain restaurant, and our ski passes. Everyone was helpful, kind, and made the hotel feel warm and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would absolutely return. Highly recommend!

The bakery was a highlight, especially the croissants before a day of skiing, and we enjoyed the excellent breakfast each morning. We had a great Matterhorn view even from the first floor. The room, food, and staff were all top-notch. My wife and I spent the first part of our honeymoon in Switzerland at the rex, and loved it. We’d worried it might be too far from central Zermatt or the ski lifts, but it was an easy walk. To us, it was just far enough from the main street to avoid much of the noise from après and the pubs. If we’d known how much we’d love Zermatt and the rex, we would’ve spent the whole trip there.

We stayed at The Rex for our honeymoon in 2025, and came back again in 2026. That probably says plenty. The spa is immaculate and a perfect place to unwind after a day in the mountains. Breakfast is included and outstanding, with delicious things from the hotel’s own bakery. The staff are what really make it special. They’re welcoming, helpful, and always smiling, so the place feels warm and personal. There are lots of great hotel options in Zermatt, but choosing The Rex makes things easy. Stay here, you’ll be glad you did!
