Sorell Hotel Rütli Niederdorf Zürich

I've always had a great experience staying at Rutli. It's efficient and welcoming, in a fantastic location, and the staff are very pleasant. Special thanks to David at reception, who goes out of his way to make things comfortable for a client.

We were traveling with our 2-year-old and 6-month-old during a multi-country trip from the US through France, Italy, and Amsterdam, and Sorell Hotel Rütli in the Niederdorf/Old Town of Zürich gave us one of the best hospitality experiences we've had anywhere. The location could not be more ideal. Our room was far more spacious than we expected in Zürich, with the biggest bed we've ever slept in, even compared with our California King at home. Two cribs were already set up when we arrived, and there was still lots of room for the kids to play and move around. From multiple windows, we had a lovely view of the Old Town streets and nearby shops. We also enjoyed opening the windows for fresh Swiss air. The bathroom had both a separate bathtub and shower, which made bathing the children easy and relaxing. Breakfast was a highlight every morning. It was delicious, high-quality Swiss food with what both the kids and adults needed to start the day.

This was the priciest hotel of our two-week vacation, but it wasn't the best, and I expected more for the money. The room was small, and some details were broken. The headboard is one example: a metal lip along the top makes sitting up in bed against it really uncomfortable.

The rooms worked well overall and comfortably slept all of us. The A/C wasn't very strong, but opening the windows cooled things down. We also asked for a fan, which they brought, and that made a big difference. Breakfast was good and better than at many 3-star hotels in North America. If you want meat, you have to ask for it, since they don't leave it out. All the staff were friendly and helpful. The location is ideal, right by the central tram hub and a few minutes' walk from Zurich HB. The street behind the hotel has cafes, food spots, and small shops, and the main canal/river isn't far away. We'll stay here again when we visit.
