Betela Beach House

We used to love staying at Betela Beach House and have holidayed there for many years, usually for 3 weeks at a time. The location is still great, and the owners have always been friendly. They’ve also picked us up from and returned us to the airport, which is a nice bonus. But the growing number of out of control roosters has ruined the stay for us. They roost in the trees next to the sleeping quarters and start crowing around 2.00am, continuing well past 4.00am, sometimes longer. They just never stop. Ear plugs and sleeping pills don’t make it possible to get a decent night’s sleep. We’ve brought this up with the owners, but they seem oblivious to how much it disrupts guests. Betela Beach House is basic but okay for what it is, though it needs handyman attention throughout. When we arrived, the outside shower pipe had been cut in half. We asked why and were told nobody uses it. It was leaking, so instead of fixing it, he said he’d just cut the pipe. After some discussion, he agreed to reconnect it, and it works fine now. It’s a pity, but without decent sleep I doubt we’ll come back, even though we used to love the place. I’ve added just 3 photos of the offending beasts that I could nab.
