Hotel Faros Del Sur

Faros del Sur is best reached by car, since it's a bit far from downtown and not easy to get to on foot. The views of the sea from the outdoor areas are magnificent, and the hotel sits on a cliff. Inside, the rooms have a traditional wooden style, and breakfast felt complete. But the rooms got much too hot. The large windows couldn't be opened, and there was no AC or fan to cool things down. Often it was too warm to fall asleep early.

The location is stunning, but the shower in my room didn't work. When I told the staff, they didn't seem to care or ask whether they could help. The room also wasn't clean enough, and at breakfast they offered eggs to other guests but not to me. After working in the hotel industry for many years, it pains me to say this, but it felt like poor management had left staff unmotivated. I hope things improve.

The place is in terrible shape. The bed blankets had hair and dirt from previous guests, and there were blood stains on the curtains. The bathroom was moldy and clearly hadn't been cleaned in ages. With no siphon, its ventilation pulled in foul air from the canal. Only brown water came out of the tap and shower. We skipped breakfast because the cutlery and dishes were dirty, with food on a spoon and coffee stains in the cups. When we complained about the room before check-in, staff just said we were out of luck and there was no other room. After our first two complaints, the hotel staff “disappeared.” The mattress was ancient and worn out, and left me with back pain. WiFi didn't work at all. I can't understand how the current booking rating is possible. It looks like nothing's been maintained in 200 years.

The view was the highlight. Breakfast was limited, with no wholemeal bread or lactose-free options. There was also a heater right beside the toilet in the bathroom, so you had to be careful.
