Palafito 1326 Hotel Boutique

At first this seemed like a wonderful boutique hotel, but I couldn’t sleep because three large dogs in a yard across the street barked and howled all night at every noise. I spoke to the night staff twice. They tried reaching the dogs’ owner but couldn’t get through, so nothing changed. During my second trip downstairs, I noticed the upstairs hallway door to the back stairs and street was ajar, with the key still in the lock. That felt extremely creepy. I told the staff, but they just shrugged and had no explanation. I spent the rest of the night on edge, listening both to the dogs and for intruders.

The hosts were very welcoming and made breakfast each morning in the breakfast room, with the feel of their own family kitchen. Depending on your travel style, that can be heartwarming or a little chaotic, but those family vibes feel like an authentic part of Chiloé. They also gave us a much-appreciated tip on local sights. It’s a cute little palafito in Castro’s most artistic area, among traditional houses turned into cozy hotels. The rooms are comfortable, though not especially large, and have small balconies opening onto the bar. There’s a high-end restaurant on the top floor where you can watch the sunset.

The room was comfortable, with a good bed, big windows over the bay and palafito houses, and a small but adequate shower room. There’s a deck with lovely views, and the place is away from most of the heavy traffic that affects Castro in January and February. Parking felt safe, and some English is spoken. It was good value. The restaurant upstairs is a separate business, so book ahead. The views are lovely, the food is good, and the portions are large, as seems typical in Chile. Prices there are reasonable too.

Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. It’s clean, well located, and the beds are comfortable. For the price, it’s fine: basic, but it has what you need. Just know that street-facing rooms can get really noisy and hot.
