Palafito Verde Apart Hotel

The palafitos were modern and very clean, and it’s convenient to walk to places. We liked the views, but the location was so noisy that we barely slept: cars and trucks kept passing, dogs barked, and there were community parties. Service fell short for us because reserving parking was difficult.

At sunrise, this place feels almost enchanted, and for the price it was the best value I found in Castro. Keep in mind that some rooms have better views than others, so try to book apartment #6. Every so often there’s a smell, since it’s wood over water. Aside from that, it’s amazing.

We could hear every step and every sound, from outside noise to people in the next room. Upstairs, an annoying kid was awake and talking from 6:00 AM, and the people kept walking around. We were in apartment 2 and heard everything when guests arrived in apartment 3 last night. Don’t mislead people into thinking this place is soundproof, because it isn’t. We couldn’t sleep. We also found a worm in a dish. Ew. We forgot some clothes in the room, and the owners wouldn’t mail them to the continent. They said they’d keep them until our next trip to the island. I hope they’re still there when we can send someone in the future. It’s too hard to travel all the way back just to get the clothes.

A peaceful, practical place just minutes from the city core. Its modern architecture fits beautifully with the traditional Castro stilt house style, and the views across the water to the hills are gorgeous.
