Parque Quilquico

We were there for two nights and had a wonderful time. The bed was the most comfortable one we had during our two-week trip through Southern Chile. The staff were helpful and nice, especially the wait staff, and the food was delicious. The grounds were lovely too. Highly recommend!

The staff were all friendly and kind, and they arranged a second-floor room when I asked, since the hotel wasn't busy. We liked the hot tub, though the sauna was closed for maintenance. The place has a rustic, cozy feel and some natural features typical of this part of Chile. There's a restaurant on site with a decent breakfast; we had dinner there once and thought it was OK. The area is remote, so there's nothing within walking distance, and the hotel sits down a steep dirt road. As in many places in Chile, knowing some Spanish is necessary.

The room itself was spacious and really nice, and service was fine, but the food made Christmas Day a disappointment. Only one staff member, the person who showed us our room, made much effort with us. We stayed over Christmas as part of our honeymoon and ate at the hotel on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The menu was limited, with many options unavailable. Christmas Eve was passable, but there were even fewer choices the next day. I had gnocchi that seemed like canned pasta in tomato soup, topped with stale, dried cheese that stayed chewy instead of melting. My wife ordered chicken breast and potatoes, which was about as interesting as it sounds, because there wasn't much else to choose from. She had wanted vegetarian pasta, but it wasn't available. Her salad was just palm hearts and half an avocado. We regretted not eating elsewhere, though on Christmas Day there weren't other options. On the 26th we ate at Tierra, the luxury 5* hotel visible from the breakfast room, and had a fantastic three-course meal for only 30,000pesos more. I wish we'd eaten there every night. I don't know what went wrong here. Management weren't around over Christmas, so there was nobody to discuss it with in person.

A quiet getaway with a walking trail on site that leads down to the shore. It's not too far from Castor either.
