Chaitén itself didn’t do much for me, and I’d probably avoid the town. As for the rental cabaña, it felt very rustic, which won’t suit everyone. I’m usually easygoing about places when I travel, but with a group I’d be tempted to skip it and look elsewhere. The price also seemed high for what you get. I can’t compare it with other places in Chaitén since I haven’t stayed anywhere else there.

The hostess was incredibly kind, helpful, cultured, and well-traveled, and the sweet treats she offered were unlike anything I’d tasted before. Breakfast was delicious by Chilean standards and stood out even compared with Central European food, which is rare for me. The place is warm and charming inside, with a great price for what you get. For me, Tranqueras del Monte is as much a must on the Carretera Austral as the route itself is in Chile. Best accommodation in Chaitén, and one of the best along the Carretera Austral, in my experience.

It’s an easy walk into town, and being across from a tire shop could come in handy if you know Ruta 7 in Patagonia. The place itself is quaint and beautiful, and the owner made us feel very welcome. Breakfast was one of the best meals I had in Chile.

The breakfast was a real highlight: lamb stew and shredded lamb, bread, cheeses, yoghurt, a veggie bowl, and dessert. The owner and her daughter were friendly and lovely to chat with. We also had a cozy room, a comfortable bed, and a great shower. We’d definitely recommend staying here.

The cabins are simple, but clean, and the beds were really comfortable. We got in close to 3am because our ferry was delayed, and Catalina was still waiting for us. The owner and her daughter were such gracious hosts throughout our stay. Breakfast was rich, filling, and felt homemade, and we had an interesting conversation about space law. They even offered to bring ice for my sprained ankle after hiking. I’d happily stay here again.
