Patagonia House

The views from the hot tub are stunning, but unlike other places in Chile, you have to pay extra to use it. The junior staff were friendly and well-meaning, though amateurish. My companion had spent time on a kibbutz and said the whole setup reminded her of that. For me, it brought back the dire USA school summer camps I worked at in the 1980s. As for the canteen, Borek, we nicknamed it “Borat” because it was such a joke. The food was dreary, some menu options weren't available, and service was a shambles. We've been spoiled by the consistently high standard of Chilean cuisine elsewhere, but even so, they added a tip after we said we didn't want to leave one. The place is a scattering of semi-finished sheds among an active building site, not a finished house. Work went on all day and late into the night. At 23.00 on Saturday, I could still hear hammering, and a spotlight shone through our paper-thin blind. I asked Ruth to stop the building work, but the response felt like lip service. Don't expect a peaceful night either, since feral dogs roam the grounds barking at each other until dawn. The Patagonia “House” has the potential to become something special, but right now it's misfiring on so many levels. It's our 13th hotel in Chile, and while we rated most of them 4-5*, we struggled to give The Patagonia “House” 2*.

The hot tub cost quite a lot extra, but it was worth every penny. The rooms are beautiful, and the view is breathtaking. Ruth, the owner, is caring and super nice, and she gave us great tips for nearby adventures. Breakfast was generous and high quality, and all the staff were courteous and very friendly. Absolutely amazing, and definitely recommended!

A huge thank you to Ruth, Ernesto, and Jaime for making our stay at Hotel Patagonia House even better. The scenery was beautiful, the room cozy, and the place super clean. We loved the location and had some incredible hikes. The only thing missing was more cuddles with rescue pups Wilson, Betty, and Wawa. Thank you, thank you, thank youuuu! We couldn't find this hiking information online, so I'm leaving it here. In spring 2025, the road to the Laguna Duff trail and entrance 2 at Cerro Castillo was in very bad shape and needed a car with excellent 4x4. The Laguna Duff hike takes 8 hours round trip, so leave early. Everyone has to come down the mountain at 3:30, no matter where they are. We didn't reach the top, but it was still beautiful and worth it. At Reserva Coyhaique, the loop trail to the top of the mountain takes 7-8 hours. Rangers recommended arriving at 9am. We got there at 10:30am and were too late to make it to the top. It's a beautiful place to hike!

The restaurant was delicious, and the hot tub was so relaxing. We had a lovely stay, with a big, comfortable room and an amazing view. Highly recommend, especially for couples looking for somewhere romantic.
