Chile Wild - Las Vertientes

The site is fascinating, with a stream, hills and valleys, sheep, goats, hens, an orchard, and more. There are lots of cabanas in Malalcahuello, but this one stands out, with seven hectares, cabins set well back from the road, and fabulous mountain views. They’re heavily insulated and sealed for winter cosiness, with slow combustion stoves, and each has a balcony and barbecue for summer. Fernando and Lavinia are friendly, helpful, and completely committed to the place. Lavinia grew up in Australia, worked in nursing and environmental science, then married Fernando and started Chile Wild. Her breakfasts are legendary, with homemade bread and jam, plus eggs and goat’s cheese made on site. They keep a low carbon footprint and recycle waste very well. Malalcahuello has plenty to offer, and during our week here we got to know Fernando and Lavinia and really appreciated their hospitality and activity suggestions. We’ll recommend it to our friends back home in Australia.

I explored their private conservation park on my way to hike up Sierra Nevada, where the 360-degree views of all the volcanoes were stunning. Back at the property, there were beautiful views all around, the peaceful sound of a stream by the lagoon, and restful nights. Fernando and Lavinia were attentive and charming, and made a personalized breakfast. The cabinas have everything you need, including excellent slow combustion stoves that kept things warm on chilly nights.

Lavinia is super nice, patient haha, and attentive. The place feels magical, rustic, cozy, and welcoming. I’d stay again a thousand times! The cabins are fully equipped and the shared area is really good, though we didn’t get to enjoy everything. Corralco is highly recommended. We got by with our portunhol and inglesol hahaha.
