Great spot right in town, an easy stroll to everything, and worth the price. The garden is excellent and staff are helpful and nice, though they speak little English and mostly Spanish. Rooms are clean enough, if a bit tired, and the Wi-Fi is spotty. Breakfast is simple, made to order each morning, and excellent.

The location and the dog were the only good parts of this hotel. Our room and bathroom were very dirty, and there didn’t seem to be staff around to help. The breakfast was minimal because whoever was responsible for buying supplies hadn’t managed to get food. There were no hangers, and we found all kinds of insects in the room, including two lizards, one of which got onto our bed. Cockroaches are all over the island, but there were lots of dead ones on the property. It looked like they don’t clean. Apparently they offer airport pickup and drop-off, but nobody told us. We happened to see someone holding a sign with our name when we arrived. When we were leaving, they said we’d missed our drop-off, even though no one had told us there would be one.

I’m sharing this because of the customer service I encountered while booking a longer South American vacation that included Easter Island. I reserved a room at Hotel OHIRO, then realized within a minute that I’d chosen the wrong dates. I immediately messaged the hotel on WhatsApp, where I still have the thread, explaining that I wanted the same stay but needed to move it from the 22nd-26th to the 25th-29th. They told me they don’t make changes, and that I could book again and pay for the new room without getting a refund for the first one. I could understand that if I’d waited a month to ask, but this was right after booking. The person at the desk said they’d get back to me, but never did, and my messages went unanswered.

We had a comfortable bed, a lovely green garden, a pool, friendly staff, and delicious breakfast during our week here. But a few basic things need attention. There’s no receptionist there all the time, and we had to ask for toilet paper to be replenished. Bath towels weren’t changed, and the bathroom floor wasn’t cleaned even when we left the towels on the floor. One night, a barbecue caused a lot of noise late into the night. I appreciated the good service, but the stay also needs these basics improved. I hope they address it.
