The staff were great and told us lots about the island. They also sorted out a rental car, which was really handy. It's a lovely little hostel with good-sized rooms and a nice breakfast.

I never got a reply to my email asking about an airport transfer, and when I arrived on foot, nobody made me feel welcome. The dorm was in very poor repair and didn't seem secure, since the lockers wouldn't lock. It also seemed like there was no hot water. I asked about a private room and was told they were all reserved, though booking sites online showed three available. I left and found another hostel.

They make sure guests are comfortable and understand the hostel rules, while keeping things super relaxed. The family is so welcoming, friendly, and kind. They also offer tours at good value, and they'll pick you up and drop you off at the airport, greeting you with a flower lei.

The shared rooms each have their own bathroom, and there's a fully equipped kitchen. Kona Tau is comfortable, close to the center, and good value for the price. I was greeted at the airport with the traditional flower leis, and Diego arranged my transfers both ways. I also joined their tours, which turned out to be an excellent choice. Diego is friendly, patient, and fun. I'll definitely come back.
