Hostal La Vitrola

Everything was very clean, and the beds were good. A great place to stay in a good location.

You get good value for the money. The shared kitchen and bathroom are part of the setup; the bathrooms are spacious and there’s hot water all the time. Rooms are fairly close to one another, but still give you privacy. It’s a few blocks from La Serena's main square and a five-minute drive from the terminal. There aren’t any shops nearby, so check about rooms in advance.

The staff were very helpful, and the room itself was nice and well equipped. Just keep in mind that a private room doesn’t come with its own bathroom, all bathrooms are shared. The towel they gave me for showering smelled clean, but it had a lot of stains. That was disappointing.

As meninas are really friendly, but breakfast only starts at 9, when they wake up. If you're going on tours, you'll head out hungry. I've never stayed at a hostal where people got up so late. If you just want to rest, though, it's worth it.
