Hostal Maitahue

The service was very bad. I'd booked three nights through a website, but they couldn't find the reservation even after I showed them the email. They only take cash and wouldn't provide the tax exemption for foreign tourists. The hot water didn't work on the first night, and the house manager doesn't handle the bookings. It wasn't possible to meet him face to face. The couple of people running the house didn't seem to understand what they were doing, and the power outlet was a long way from the bed.

We had a basic but really nice room with a private bathroom beside the terrace, and stayed for two nights. The family was friendly and relaxed, and we could use the kitchen and living room. What a pity I couldn't stay for 18 September. The empanadas were great! I recommend this place 100%.

This is a cozy family-run hostel, in a quiet area about a 10-minute walk from the main center. The kitchen was pretty good, the Wi-Fi worked well, and the bathroom and shower were nice enough. Towels were provided. We booked a twin room but were put in a small room with two bunk beds and barely enough room to move. The thin wooden walls meant we could hear everything next door. The young couple there played music loudly and watched films at high volume. It's not a party hostel, so don't stay here if that's what you're after. The family seemed to live on site, though I'm not completely sure. They ask guests not to use the kitchen after 11 PM or the shower after midnight, which was completely fine with us.

The person who checked us in was kind and courteous, and the kitchen was very well equipped. I paid $70,000 for two people for two nights. Though it's far from the center, that seemed fair for the price. The room wasn't like the one in the photos, and the bathroom was next to it instead of inside, even though it was meant to be a private bathroom. I also wished there had been somewhere to hang clothes instead of leaving them on the floor. For the price, I think it's fine, but I'm giving it three stars because we didn't get the room shown.
