Wyndham Puerto Varas Pettra

The location is right by the shore, with the best view. The rooms are old and may need refurbishing, but they're very clean and well maintained. Service was mediocre. At check-in, I didn't get a warm greeting and didn't feel welcome. Staff could use some communication training and a gentler way of speaking. I arrived 1.5 hours before check-in and asked if I could come in early. The receptionist just said check-in was at 3pm and I couldn't check in early. That was factual, but she could have explained more kindly, for example that my room was being cleaned and would be ready at 3, since I already knew the check-in time. With another staff member, I was holding a small paper with the WiFi password details when she asked if I had mobile data. I was confused: if I had data, wouldn't they still give me the WiFi password? It turned out they wanted me to download their app to get the room key. I don't understand why she had to ask about data. They could have simply given me the password. They also got my name wrong even though it was clearly written on my passport. When I reported a strange noise in the room, nobody apologized until I asked.

Easy to walk to both town and the beach. The hotel is smart, with lovely, spacious rooms and great views. Breakfast was good quality, and the restaurant was good too.

We travel at five-star properties, so judging by that standard, this is more like a 3 1/2-4 star place. The lodge is nice and offers good value, with a great location if you want to be near town and enjoy the views. It's a few blocks from the main square, far enough to be set back. The bathrooms are dated and amenities are minimal.

Had a fantastic lunch with my best friend, who I hadn't seen in years. The view was fantastic, the restaurant was beautiful, the food was delicious, and the service was excellent. What more could a girl ask for?
