Hospedaje Sole

The rooms were cold, and there was a queue of about an hour for the only usable bathroom. There was a second bathroom, but it couldn’t be used then. Breakfast was a piece of bread with an almost paper-thin slice that looked like ham. There’s no sign saying it’s a hostel rather than a private home, and I found the place a bit unfriendly. You don’t get a key or an access code, so each time you return you have to ask someone to let you in.

The building feels like it’s falling apart: the ceiling is coming down, and the whole place shakes when someone walks through it. There’s no entrance key, so late arrivals have to ring the bell beside the bedroom. She locks the door at 11:30pm, leaving you locked inside. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and the heater only warmed the living room. There’s just one pan for everyone, and one guest had to stop cooking his steak because cooking meat in a pan was forbidden. Breakfast was mediocre, and the host made no effort to make us feel welcome. This place is a joke. If you can book somewhere else, I’d recommend doing that.

Our room was right next to the living room, and we got no rest. People were coming and going until 11pm, with lights switching on and off until midnight. Then the phone rang at 3am and 4am. By 6am, everyone was up and getting ready to leave. There seems to be only one bathroom in our area, so we had to wait to pee while other people showered, then deal with the room being soaked. The host needs an assistant!

The beds had bedbugs. We saw and felt them during the night, and the bathrooms were dirty, with waits of about an hour. Heating was only in the two common spaces: downstairs, where she spends all day watching TV with her cat, and upstairs, with a TV and two old couches. The host doesn’t talk to you, and we never felt that lack of hospitality in the other places we stayed in Chile. Breakfast was one piece of bread, one slice of cheese, hot water, and a slice of jam. She locks the door at night, which puts everyone on the second floor in danger if there’s an emergency. There’s no sign outside, so people get confused about finding the place. After two days I realized she had overbooked the hostel to make sure the rooms were filled, then told people their reservation had been lost or something. Avoid this place!
