Hostel La Moneda

The noise was constant for me. The windows don't block sound, and the one in my room was broken. I was right across from reception, so I could hear the receptionists chatting and laughing all the time. If noise doesn't bother you, maybe it's fine, but otherwise this place isn't a good fit. The Brazilian guy who checked me in was rude and didn't explain the facilities. He seemed unhappy with his internship. I didn't see a single employee during the rest of my stay. The receptionists are all interns, they don't know how the system works, and most can't suggest things to do nearby because they're new and don't know the area. The kitchen was missing even basics like salt and coffee. Worst hostel ever. I wouldn't return or recommend it.

Getting around Santiago and reaching the main tourist spots was easy from Hostal La Moneda, which is one of its strongest points. The facilities were comfortable and well equipped, making the stay pleasant. The staff were warm and attentive from the start. It's an excellent option for visiting the city.

For a budget stay, this is a decent option: it's clean, the night's sleep was good, and there are restaurants and convenience stores downstairs, with the subway nearby. The other guests were quiet at night, even though sound carries from the stairs and downstairs because the rooms aren't soundproof. There's no elevator, so expect to climb several flights to reach the hotel. Luggage storage is free. The room has no air conditioning, and the only outlets are behind the bedside tables on either side. A deposit is needed for the key. The receptionist speaks English. The upstairs shared bathroom is larger than the one downstairs.

The location is a big plus, with the metro, bus stops, shops and tourist attractions nearby, and the price was good. I stayed eight days and slept really well. The curtains on the beds gave plenty of privacy, guests kept to quiet hours, and everyone got along. Everything was very clean, fresh smelling and new, and the hostel was well organized and peaceful. The volunteers were friendly and helpful. A wonderful hostel.
