I'd been traveling solo in South America for months, and it's not always easy to find a place that's both social and comfortable. This big hostel had plenty to do, including ping pong and a little arcade, while the rooms were tidy and the beds comfortable. During the day it was calm and not overcrowded or too noisy, which worked well since I work online. Weekends were a different world, with the hostel in Santiago's party zone. It was a great place to meet other travelers. I joined their language exchange and had a really nice time, made some great friends, and left with wonderful memories of this place.

I usually don't leave reviews when a place falls short of my expectations, but this went beyond uncomfortable beds or dirty toilets, and I think other women traveling alone should know. The hostel has a nice layout and infrastructure, but soundproofing is nonexistent. Rooms can be VERY LOUD at night, especially on weekends with several clubs nearby. My bigger concern was the staff, particularly the guy called the "Pirate" who runs the social events. The bar crawls are presented as a way to meet people and exchange languages, so I was excited to meet travelers and practice English and Spanish. But it felt more like a "gringa hunting ground," with solo female travelers used as bait for local men and the organizer himself. After seven months of travel through several countries, I've never felt so uncomfortable on a night out. The organizer seemed to be doing it just to meet and hook up with "gringas." I stayed a few hours, then left because he was creepy and pushy. I wasn't the only one being harassed that night. If you're a woman traveling alone, I'd recommend other hostels. There are better options with more organized bar crawls and parties.

The room was great and really comfortable, and the food and drinks were nice. But the neighborhood is poorly insulated, so you can feel the bass from several clubs all night. The hostel's bar and restaurant area also plays mediocre music loudly over a PA all day.

The staff were incredibly rude, and the bathrooms were DISGUSTING. The cleaning “checklist” seemed more like an autograph competition. Kids were constantly running around, banging on doors, and screaming. I never felt safe, even behind a locked door. Horrid, and I'll never go back.

I've stayed at this hostel twice, and it's a great place with a fun community. Mauro, Khristie, and Florencia deserve a special mention. Their warm, friendly energy made my time there much better and really added to the atmosphere. I'd happily stay again.
