I usually don't stay in hostels, but I came to La Chimba with friends and had a pretty nice time. I stayed in an all-girls room and slept well. Sharing a space means coming prepared with things like earplugs and an eye mask, and then it shouldn't be an issue. One side of the bed may not have been the cleanest, but for the nightly price and the spaces available in the hostel, I think it was worth it. I highly recommend it.

The bathrooms were clean, though sometimes it took ages for the water to get warm. Staff were friendly and helpful, and there were lots of activities on offer. For the price it was okay. In the "luxury" women's room, the beds had no privacy curtains, and the little fans were loud and annoying if someone ran one all night.

The employees and front desk earn the one star. This was the worst hostel I've stayed in so far in South America. The rooms smelled, the sheets were dirty, and there was no pillow cover. The blanket looked like it hadn't been washed in months, and the common areas had a smell too. I also felt the neighborhood was shady. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a clean or safe stay. There are plenty of similarly priced options in better neighborhoods.

The social atmosphere helped me meet lots of great friends, and the hostel had great vibes, facilities, and a good location. I can't recommend it enough.

A fun place with kind, easygoing staff and a good pool table. You can be social if you feel like it, but there are plenty of spots to relax too. I'll go back next time I'm in Santiago :)
