Santa Maria Express

The room was nice, but it needed a wardrobe, and there was nowhere to hang anything in the bathroom. There wasn't even a soap dish. Breakfast was okay, though a bit sparse. The drains smelled very bad and the Wi-Fi was very poor.

The location was a big help. It's close to everything, with bars and restaurants on the street behind, plus a place selling empanadas that saved us every day. My room was large and the air conditioning worked well. Apart from that, though, the stay disappointed me. Most of the staff weren't very friendly; Antônio at reception was the one person who was kind and helpful. Breakfast was a letdown: bread and cold cuts every day for all 7 days. You had to ask for milk and butter, and hope they brought them. I really missed having an egg in the morning.

The lobby looks nice, and the location is about the only thing you could call good. Everything else was a mess. There were no towels or toiletries in the room, the sheets hadn't been changed and were covered in hair, and the bathroom was dark. We called reception to ask for soap and shampoo, but they never brought any, and the bottles in the room hadn't been refilled.

Avoid this place! It feels like a rip-off aimed at Brazilians. We arrived around 16h and found out the hotel is called Sonetto, not Santa Maria Express. At first they said our bath towels were drying, so there were none in the room after we'd been traveling since 22h the night before. Most of the staff barely made an effort to be friendly, and the room was awful. We were horrified when we walked in. Breakfast was just as bad. They served instant coffee, and despite comments I'd read saying the snacks changed each day, every day we got bread with pressed ham and cheese. If you want milk, you have to ask at the counter, but we only found that out by chance because nobody tells you it's available. We were getting ready for an outing when the housekeeper knocked and asked if we wanted the room cleaned. I said yes, but asked if she could come back a little later since we were still getting ready. She refused. It had to be then, or not until the next day. The bathroom window wouldn't close because it had a screw in it. The bathroom floods, the curtain is filthy and disgusting, and the drain is completely open. Our trip was good for other reasons, but this hotel did nothing to make it better. It doesn't provide guests with even the bare minimum.
