Fauna Hotel

Breakfast was the highlight: lots of healthy choices, a lovely view, and attentive staff who refilled things quickly. The rooms were clean and great. Getting the parking garage door opened could be slow, and the parking area was tricky to maneuver, so I was glad I had an SUV. One receptionist was unfriendly when I checked out. Even with those issues, I had a very good stay and would come back.

Mom and I only came for dinner, hoping to enjoy the sunset view. The setting made us expect something quite posh, so being left waiting behind a chain while staff walked past without acknowledging us felt odd. Once I got someone's attention and asked about a table for two, we were seated, and the service after that was lovely. The view was beautiful, and the complimentary olive starter was tasty and well seasoned without filling us up. Mom liked the pisco sour, salad, and dessert, though her steak was a letdown at first: she asked for it cooked to 3/4, but it arrived essentially seared and oddly flavorless. She sent it back after a few bites, and it returned more flavorful and cooked just right, with a little pink in the middle. My Sopa Marinera was fine, but despite the seafood I was excited to see, most of it turned out to be boiled potato. I expected more vegetables than onion, a few carrot slices, and potato. Mom's dish was also advertised as having mixed vegetables, so we felt that was lacking too. The Ensalada Fauna was fresh and lovely, and we both enjoyed the garlic almonds. We thought the supposed pickled red onions were pickled leeks, but liked them anyway. The pisco sour was strong and well made. Best of all was the volcán de chocolate, served with raspberry and mint sorbet. The fresh, fruity sorbet was just right with the hot, gooey dark chocolate. We'd come back for that and the sunset views.

I only tried the restaurant. The menu was pretty limited, especially if you don't eat meat, though the food itself was fine. The city view makes it worth stopping by for lunch.

We'd hoped to sit by the view, but every spot was supposedly reserved. During the hour we were there, nobody showed up for those seats. When we asked about it, the staff laughed at us in an arrogant way.
