The terrace is the highlight, with a Pacific view I won't forget, and the staff were warm and personal, even arranging an easy ride to the port. The Wi-Fi worked well, and breakfast was thoughtfully prepared, though drinks are limited to coffee, tea or water, with no juice. The rooms are simple but sparkling clean, and you're right among Valparaíso's lively hills, with restaurants and shops just steps away. Boutique Hotel Acontraluz can be easy to miss at first, as I did. It's a charming base for a short stay, but there are no air conditioners, so summer gets warm. The neighborhood dogs may sing at night, though they quiet down by bedtime, so bring earplugs unless you miss your dogs back home. The view and atmosphere are pure Valparaíso!

The top-floor balcony is the best part, with a spectacular view of the bay and Valparaiso. I spent hours there each night watching the moon rise behind a hill. The area is cute, with top restaurants and small boutiques right outside. It's an old house, so its 3-star rating makes sense, but to me it felt like a 5-star B&B in the UK or US. The staff were extremely kind, and breakfast was the best possible, made à la minute for you. You can get coffee, tea and cold water, and use the fridge and social areas.

A great spot to take in Valparaiso by day or night. The staff were kind, and the old building has been renovated into a comfortable hotel. Breakfast was great, with fresh fruit, yogurt and cheese. There's no hotel parking, but you can park on nearby streets. Totally recommend it!

We were lucky Acobtraluz boutique hotel took us in at the last minute. Our original hotel booking had been mixed up, leaving us without a room when we arrived in Valparaiso, and they recommended this place. Otherwise we'd have been stuck in the streets with nowhere to stay. The service was top notch, very personal, and we always felt cared for. I loved the building's old charm, and our room had a gorgeous view of Valpo. We had peaceful complimentary breakfasts, sometimes on our balcony and sometimes on their beautiful terrace. It felt like staying somewhere from another time. A perfect fit for a couple wanting a relaxing, romantic and peaceful stay, or a solo backpacker wanting to be central to Cerro Alegre and experience the city's old charm.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Acontraluz for our honeymoon, and it was just what we wanted. The location made it easy to walk around some of Valparaiso's most charming areas, and our beautiful, comfortable room had a stunning ocean view. The included breakfast was excellent too. From Pablo greeting us at the door and helping with our bags to the moment we left, the service was excellent. If you're heading to Valparaiso, don't miss a couple of nights in this gorgeous renovated mansion.
