Verso Hotel

The staff were helpful, and the hotel itself is nice, with a great hot tub and secure parking. Getting around the rooms was hard because they felt so cramped. The neighborhood is very steep, and we felt only somewhat safe there. It was also grubby, with dog mess all over the sidewalks, lots of trash, and poorly kept homes.

The restaurant was a highlight, especially the delicious sous vide beef I ordered. We also became fans of the French 75 and coffee infused Negroni at the bar. Andrés gave us some great suggestions: San Pedro for locos (abalone) by the waterfront, and Maria Maria for brunch. We spent a few days there in November, using the hotel as a base to see the area. The rooms are small, though we mostly just used ours to sleep. My wife, daughter, and I all enjoyed the stay.

The rooftop terrace is worth a visit even if you aren't staying at the hotel. The restaurant up there has a 360-degree view, tasty cocktails, and a delicious menu that puts local ingredients and signature spins on Chilean food. As far as I know, it's the only place in Valpo with a rooftop hot tub, and that experience is well worth it.

The breakfast that came with our stay was the best hotel breakfast we've had in ages, and we also had an excellent dinner at the rooftop restaurant. We spent four nights in a clean, roomy loft attached to the hotel building. It had quick WiFi, a private garage, rooftop patio, comfortable beds, and nice linens. We'd happily stay there again if we came back to Valparaiso.
