La Casa del Puerto - Hostel

The place has a lively feel and the service was really friendly, but it’s definitely not somewhere to go for peace and quiet 😅. We don’t mind a small room, though these were tiny and not very clean. The property itself felt unclean too, with lots of broken furniture. We mainly wanted the bed, floors, and toilets to be in good shape.

The rooftop views are fantastic, and the kitchen was very clean and practical. The price was reasonable, with a discount for staying several nights. The location is great, but the café and bar downstairs make the bedrooms noisy through the walls until midnight on weekdays and later on Fridays and weekends.

The hostel sometimes puts on events, so evenings can get loud. Even so, I really recommend it: the rooms are clean and have bunk beds, the host is very kind, and it’s affordable. It’s also close to all the popular murals in Valparaíso.

I strongly advise against booking here. We ended up cancelling ourselves because of the service, so I can only rate that part of the experience. We booked through booking.com in May 2025 for New Year’s Eve 2025/2026, and the accommodation confirmed the booking at the stated price. In early August, we messaged to ask whether each room had its own bathroom, since the listing wasn’t clear. We waited until the end of August and never got an answer. Instead, the hostel rudely told us to cancel, saying the confirmed price had been wrong. It seemed they may have noticed New Year’s Eve was approaching and could charge guests more. In the conversation that followed, replies typically took 3-4 weeks, and they kept stalling and pressuring us to cancel. They also said there wouldn’t be a room for us when we arrived. Our actual questions were ignored while they insisted we cancel. Judging by other reviews, this seems to be a common tactic.
