Hotel Royal Victoria

The rooms were decent otherwise, and the staff were nice. Food at the restaurant downstairs was good, though the service was painfully slow. Those are the only reasons I’m giving it two stars instead of one. We only had to stay one night, which was fortunate, because sleeping there was miserable in the heat. The air conditioners would turn on, but pushed out barely any air, and it was no cooler than room temperature. Changing the fan speed made no difference, even at the highest setting, and the temperature controls didn’t work either. It was so hot we started sweating while sitting still, even after a cold shower. I asked management to look at it, but they did nothing and didn’t even try to defend the problem. We were a large family group with two other rooms, and all three had the same size and model of air conditioner. They were large, capable units, but behaved identically. That left me convinced the hotel had deliberately recalibrated them to put out very little, non-cold air, cutting costs while still charging guests for air conditioned rooms. It’s disgraceful, and they should be ashamed of cheating customers. There was also a long wait for check-in. Despite reservations made well in advance, and arriving later than the usual check-in time, our rooms weren’t ready. We waited at least an hour, not just five or ten minutes, and there were several other guests with luggage waiting in a crowded, standing-room-only lobby for staff to get their rooms ready. The back parking area is an unmarked gravel lot, which is fine in itself. But nobody monitors it or helps guests park in a way that leaves enough room for everyone, so finding a space was difficult, and there was hardly room to unload luggage.

Great spot for a cocktail. The staff are very professional, and Matias, my bartender, always made me the perfect drink 🍸. He’s also very handsome 👌

The meat is really great, and the sandwiches are spectacular. Great hotel with nice people. Just be aware that rooms nearer reception get a little noise overnight.

The service is world class, and the food is too. Best place by a mile.
